Flossie White Room. We will try and alert you if the town is using the room for a meeting.
There are a few items that would have been discussed at the January meeting (cancelled due to snow). First, the quilt show venue search committee would have announced that they chose First Baptist Church of Maggie Valley (the building behind Subway) for our quilt show this year. The dates and times (note new weekend and time) will be Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016 from noon to 4 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14-15, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Due to Wednesday evening church services we will set up on Thursday morning. There are lots of new issues with a new location which can be discussed at the next meeting, but be assured the committee was thorough in their evaluation and the issues can be worked out.
Second on the agenda last month was the need for two more positions to be filled. We need someone to volunteer to be in charge of the donation quilt (which will debut at the March meeting). Their responsibilities include signing us up for the festivals and other events; getting the times covered by volunteers to sell; making sure the quilt gets set up and taken down; and getting the money to Alyson. It’s seems like a big job, but I did it for two events last year and it was fine. This position is very important since the majority of our money comes from donation quilt tickets. Please contact Sheryl to volunteer 734-8306.
We also need a volunteer for the quilt show vendors. We have some things (space, etc.) to work out yet with the new venue, but then the volunteer would handle the quilt show vendor contracts (soon) and then be there for the vendors (set up, during, and take down) at the quilt show. Please contact Sheryl to volunteer 734-8306.
With the proposed construction in the Maggie Valley Community Center/Town Hall, they will be using the Flossie White room for their Board and other meetings. Most of their meetings are in the evening but we occasionally may not be able to use the FW room during the day. Sheryl is on their email list to get 48 hour notice of meetings, but it may be that we can’t use the room at the last minute as well. We have possible alternatives should this happen on workshop days. We hope to continue to use the FW room after construction so our graciousness in accepting the inconvenience will hopefully be appreciated. For security, with the thought in mind of many non-quilters and general public meeting in the room, we have put locks on the cabinets to keep our supplies and quilts safe. The Community Day co-chairs, Donna Sharpe and Elsie Orrell each have a set of keys, as does Sheryl so call one of us if you need access. No other keys will be duplicated or passed out. Community work days will be the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
Last of all, just a reminder that Betty McMillan is our Sunshine chair. If you know of an illness or death in our membership, please let her know: firstname.lastname@example.org or 904-743-0503 (winter) or 550-7814 (summer).

I’ve received a request via Lori at J Creek Fabrics for someone to put together already made blocks & finish a quilt. The lady’s name & telephone # is Joyce Cripps 574-707-2090. She is in Maggie Valley. The 6″ squares were written on for Joyce’s daughter. Joyce wants to make them into a quilt for her. She would like it to be about a regular/double bed size. She doesn’t need it until her daughter’s anniversary in Nov.
I told her we would put it in our newsletter & ask anyone interested to call her to discuss details & what they would charge to do it.
Bottom line: Joyce is looking to hire someone to put together blocks with sashing & quilt it.
